The Academy Charter School values health and well-being and provides all stu
dents with physical education at least two times per week in an effort to encourage overall fitness. Students participate in physical activities aligned with the New York State Standards for Physical Education that provide conditioning for various fitness areas; and they develop fitness skills through regular practice, effort, and perseverance.
Through regular PE instruction, students are able to demonstrate mastery of fundamental motor, non-locomotor, and manipulative skills. They also come to understand the effects of activity on the body, the risks associated with inactivity, and the basic components of health-related fitness. Students demonstrate and assess their fitness by performing exercises or activities related to each health-related fitness component, and they establish personal goals to improve their fitness.
